REGIONAL PRINCIPAL ENGINEER - WEST REGION

The Regional
Principal Engineer will manage telecommunications
projects for clients involving multiple technologies including
radio, fiber optics, and copper cable; will be an integrated part
of the Regional Practice leadership team and will be a recognized
leader in the water/utility industry, specifically in their
respective area of technical expertise, a Westin service package
and/or as a trusted advisor seller-doer.
The Regional Principal will lead strategic initiatives, key
pursuits, planning and solution development, technical delivery
standards, and mentoring of project and delivery teams that grows
sales and revenue in Westin. Manage (including supervision of
technical staff) and ensure quality performance of key technical
tasks of strategic and large projects within budget, schedule,
and Westin quality standards. Maintains excellent "trusted
advisor" client relations and leads large projects wins where
they are named as the Project Manager or Principal in Charge. Key
contributor to the regional and national Practice in developing
and defining service packages, delivery standards and the Westin
Way.
Job Responsibilities
- Accepted as subject matter expert in one or more technical areas; understands specialty services, industry leading solutions, maintains technical expertise and knowledge up-to-date
- Identify business opportunities, prepare proposals, and win new business; specifically strategic/leading services and large projects
- Work on multiple delivery teams, both inside and outside their assigned region as required
- Lead the acquisition of multiple new key clients/projects per year being proposed as project manager or PIC, developing client relationships, preparing proposals and/or being a key contributor in business development prior to award and during client presentations
- Successfully manage assigned projects, to the clients' satisfaction, within budget, and on schedule, including obtaining contract change orders and schedule adjustments where appropriate
- Maintains personal trusted advisor business relationships with key accounts, expands sales with existing accounts, identifies, and sells to customer needs
- Maintain excellent client relations, meets customer expectations for quality
- Support and coordinate Region/National practice by developing and packaging new and innovative practice service offerings tangential to Westin's core business focus
- Westin's Quality System is adhered to on all projects or tasks, as demonstrated by QC records
- Proactively participates in Regional or National Conferences by presenting at least two papers per year and/or participate in conference committees
- Maintain membership in at least one technical society

Responsibilities:
- Assigned staff understands projects, and effectively perform work on time within individual task budgets, and without quality problems
- Recruit, hire, mentor, and train staff with the Regional Practice Director and VP
Job Requirements
- 10 plus years experience in the following:
-
- Licensed radios in the frequencies available to utilities and public agencies
- Unlicensed radios
- Fiber optic technology
- Local Area Networks and Wide Area Networks
- Telephone systems
- Voice/mobile radio systems
- SONET, MAS, ATM, Frame Relay, and similar technologies
- Integration of communications technology with business applications
- 5 plus years in a water/wastewater engineering consulting environment
- Demonstrated project design leadership
- Managed multiple staff over the course of large, multi-year projects
- Demonstrated ability to influence and win competitive projects
- Proven history of key account development
- Extensive project management experience in the following:
- Client expectations and service delivery
- Project Planning and Control
- Vendor selection and management
- Requirements definition
- Oversight of Implementation of applications
- Business Process Improvement
- Supporting clients in the identification and development of appropriate PM methodology
- Demonstrated ability to grow and mentor project teams
- Proven ability to manage personal and team utilization targets and performance, achieving both individual and team-based goals
- B.S. in Engineering or related field, advanced education degree a plus
- Certification as a Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) required
- Project Management Institute (PMI) Certification as Project Management Professional (PMP) a plus
- Excellent written and verbal presentation skills with the ability to present complex ideas in a clear and concise manner
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office products
